About the Scholarship

Marie’s scholarship fund was created to help newly immigrated Canadians to obtain higher education.

Marie had spent a large portion of her life helping others, with the last ten years teaching English as a second language to new Canadians. She saw a need for young people without the financial wherewithal being unable to continue their education in college or university.

The fund was created to carry on her legacy of helping others and is prepared to help fund education for deserving new Canadians with annual funding, up to $5,000 per student per year.

Initially we are looking for students finishing high school in Stoney Creek or East Hamilton with decent marks looking to go to university or college, but who may be unable to finance all the costs. This person should be a leader within their community and volunteer to help others.

Creating Marie’s legacy

Marie’s life philosophy was to help other people and she did this with a passion in most everything she did, whether it was teaching indigenous children from a reservation, or children in kindergarten, or teenagers in home economics, or English as a second language, or customers in her flower shops, she always went far beyond what was expected.
